CMGA HISTORY
ORIGIN OF THE CMGA
In 1986, four golfers came together to organize our association. This resourceful group consisted of John McPherson, Rodger Hogan, Glenn Whitmire, and Bobby Layne. From those key organizers, the membership rapidly grew to exceed 400 active golfers. The equipment room was their unofficial office where sign-up, scoring, and payout were conducted, along with enjoying popcorn and a brew after a demanding 18.
During the height of the membership, Wednesday’s tee times were dominated by the CMGA, which unfortunately meant non-members were unlikely to get a tee time on Wednesdays. And, to this day, non-members may still recall, Wednesdays belong to the CMGA. As new area golf courses were built, the CMGA membership slowly dropped in numbers, but it remains a vital part of the Chattahoochee Golf Course.
2021 marked the 35th anniversary of our association. To ensure another 35 years, please volunteer, and thank those volunteers who are currently providing you a great golf experience and fellowship every Wednesday.
